***Poetry***
A lonely and almost forgotten unnamed street spartanly lit
Ivy coiling around the iron fingers of the once gleaming railings
Bulbs flicker signalling the imminence of their life’s end
Water seeping into the highway’s cracks and pooling in potholes
A cold northern wind bellows, biting angrily as it blows non-stop
Any pooling water beginning to freeze forming an icy glaze
The reflections mirroring the isolated neglect of the environment
A harsh frosting like shattered glass dust every remaining surface
The cold night air cooling yet further, the moon and stars above
Burning brightly – boring down with a steely, constant stare
Merciless and unflinching, partnering the wind’s lifeless hunger
Unconnected shadows cast shapely demons of life’s past
The raging of the winds subsides leaving all still and oddly quiet
Quieter than the grave and yet still in death’s determined grip
Blinking, the scene changes and this is no longer an unfamiliar place
A place with no name, it is my heart with hope and love almost gone
Red, orange, yellow and white flood the once desolate grey landscape
Burning through the icy coverings, encouraging life, love and hope
The coldness, isolation and neglect are banished almost from memory
The fire that is your love warms my heart and intoxicates me completely
