Night!!

Night of the Living Dead has to be my fave.  The whole atmosphere lends a creepy feel to the movie as does the black and white.  Maybe also because it was the original and even though I was born yet when it came out, it still was the first one I saw and that memory sticks with me. 

I still remember being surprised that dead people were walking...i was a kid when i saw it and had no idea it was a zombie movie when I started watching it.

Definately Night of the Living Dead

I saw Night of the Living Dead a couple years after it came out.  It was on tv late at night.  I totally freaked.  That was the scariest thing I'd ever seen.  With that one movie, the zombie prototype had been created.  George Romero defined all zombie movies that followed.  Nothing that followed could compare either.  They weren't even called zombies at that time.  The original zombies were mind controlled slaves in movies like White Zombie.  The new zombies were mindless preditors.  That's way scarier. 

I have to say that I love the new faster zombies in recent movies.  They're even scarier when you can't outrun them.  It's significant that they should be portrayed so much faster now.  Our world is a lot faster.  We have microwaves, computers, adhd.  It just figures that the cultural icon would speed up. 

Night of the Living Dead was the start for something important in history and important in my personal make up.  I can't get enough zombie movies, but you never forget your first.
