Courage

False courage is fighting;
bragging about war.
defeating an enemy
that you never saw.
It’s bar room brawling,
in the dead of the night.
with ignorant men winning
and blood as the score.
This false bravado
that they call courage
used to impress,
to mask their fear
Real courage is rare
the hardest to find
believing, in yourself,
and all that you do.
It’s taking a stand
for the good of all.
working to right a wrong
for someone unknown.
Most of all real courage is:
to continue when you are beat,
when you are standing alone,
to make a better world,
for when you are gone.
